Globally, 70% of all available water is used for irrigation. Agricultural water users increasingly need to demonstrate wise and sustainable use of water. Sustainable water management demands an understanding of the water requirements for agriculture (including the underlying science), the technologies for efficient water use at scales ranging from the field to the basin, the institutions involved in agricultural water management and the particularly the impacts of climate change on agricultural water use.
