ICLEI mission is to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global environmental and sustainable development conditions through cumulative local actions. In its quality as an international environmental agency for local governments, ICLEI acts as an exchange mechanism of information on sustainable development and provides guidelines for policies, training, technical support, and consulting services to increase the capacity of local governments in facing global challenges. The Water Campaign, started in June 2000, aims to build a world movement of committed local governments with reaching tangible improvements in the sustainable use of fresh water resources by means of protecting and improving local basins, reducing water pollution and improving the readiness and efficiency on water and sanitation services.
