1. Environmental Impact Assessment of 6 ADPs The projects are located in Ethiopia at places called.Adama, Mehal Meda, Sattussa, Damota I, Omo Sheleko and Shenkola. Metaferia Consulting Engineers examined the effectiveness of formerly executed nursery, afforestation, soil and water conservation, rural feeder roads, crossing structures, irrigation and socio-economic schemes with regard to friendliness to the environment. It found out environmental gaps/or impacts of operational schemes and future projects as well as their compatibility with the environment. It also examined the suitability of new schemes and proposed mitigation measures to the impacts and established monitoring plans for future project realization. It held workshop/training program for the senior client staff. 2. Comprehensive Assessment & Evaluation of Oromia Water Resources Potential Oromia is a regional state in Ethiopia. Metaferia Consulting Engineers had been assessing surface and ground water potential, urban and rural water supply services and the economic potential of the lakes; evaluating the current utilization of available water resources vis-à-vis available potential; identifying the major constraints to water resources development; drawing up a short, medium and long term regionally focused policies and strategies, including irrigation and water distribution policies; critically reviewing on-going and pipeline projects; etc. 3. Training Course on Water Harvesting Techniques The training was offered at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The services provided included training of staff and preparatory of full course notes for some 29 NGO staff. The topics covered hydrology and control of ephemeral water resources and their sustainable development, including site selection and evaluation, spate irrigation, soil management for runoff farming, community participation and management. The training also included crop selection and management, computation of crop water requirement, selection and design of water harvesting techniques. 4. Small Scale Irrigation Project Training Program The project was focused on giving training on small scale irrigation planning and designing to the technical and professional staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopia. Metaferia Consulting Engineers helped the staff to master technical and engineering skills and practices, thereby enabling them to better perform their job in identification, planning and design of irrigation schemes so as to increase agricultural production. It provided technical staff with an appreciation and understanding of farmers' needs and decision making processes to improve their ability to work with farmers in order to identify, plan and design sustainable irrigation systems.
